Instilling a strong foundation for lifelong learning

READ Program

R.E.A.D. Program

Reading Connection Newsletters

The Reading Enrichment And Development (READ) Program at St. Stephen’s supports students by providing enrichment activities as well as support in the area of literacy. Selected students will attend enrichment lessons once per week to strengthen, enrich, and develop their reading skills through individualized and small group instruction. Enrichment experiences foster comprehension skills, critical thinking, vocabulary development, and the love of reading in a collaborative environment using 21st-century skills and tools.

Students who may need reinforcement in specific areas of reading will attend small group instruction two or three times per week. The primary focus is to differentiate instruction and develop a solid foundation in the area of literacy by using research-based and developmentally appropriate practices. We use digital tools to engage and enhance the learning process. Parents receive notification if their child is selected to attend the READ program.

The READ program also promotes activities such as: Family Reading Night (Senior Kindergarten through Grade 2), and the schoolwide program Read Across America. Additionally, the READ program sponsors schoolwide Reading Buddies and a monthly online newsletter.
