Head of School Message

Welcome to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School!

This precious “little school by the bay” has touched many lives, seen hundreds grow up into amazing individuals and treasured and savored every moment of its nearly 60 years of existence.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School, a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 elementary school, has been proudly educating leaders of tomorrow since 1958.  Our school was inspired by a small group of parishioners who envisioned an exceptional Episcopal School education, combining academic excellence with a strong commitment to values and morals. To this day, this vision is even stronger within our community, demonstrating decades of dedication, commitment, and rich tradition.

Our community is one that welcomes and celebrates families ranging in ethnicities and religious pluralism, who are worthy of strong morals and values and are vested in their children’s education.  We are a community of like-minded families with a common purpose and whose strength cultivates relationships that last a lifetime.

I invite you to take a look at our website and immerse yourself in the St. Stephen’s experience.  You will see joyous, engaged students immersed in the learning process.  One that is guided by highly talented educators and filled with a myriad of opportunities to empower learners and develop capable, confident and compassionate leaders of tomorrow. At St. Stephen’s our faculty strive to be experts in their field-modeling innovative practices through 21st Century skills and methodology, many not only participate in educational organizations but are also highly sought out to present at National Conferences.

Graduates of St. Stephen’s are accepted into highly respected middle schools in the area and are well positioned to excel in and out of the classroom, whether through their academic pursuit, arts pursuit, or any other passion of choice.

On behalf of our entire community, I thank you for your interest in learning more about St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School.

Church and Day School Covenant

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School, serving PreK(3) to Grade 5, was founded by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in 1958. The original intent of the Church in creating the School was to accommodate the educational needs of Church families. Over the years, the constituency of the School has changed, and the relationship between the School and the Church has evolved. The School is now a primary outreach of the Church into the broader community.

Through the School, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church touches the future. We educate children in a Christian community which provides not only academic excellence but also spiritual formation. As an Episcopal school, we draw from the foundations of the Anglican Church: Scripture, Tradition and Reason. We also firmly believe that “from everyone to whom much has been given much will be expected” (St. Luke 12:48). Therefore education at St. Stephen’s includes stewardship: that lifelong sense of responsibility to all of God’s creation by sharing material and intellectual gifts with others, and by caring for the earth as our home. As a primary outreach of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, our goal is to further develop the School community as one which reflects the diversity of the broader world. Toward that goal, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School is committed to reaching a goal of 10% (the Biblical tithe) of net tuition being designated yearly as financial aid in order to reach a broader section of the community. Recently, the Board of Trustees established a general school endowment fund which will create even more opportunities for the granting of financial aid.

The governance of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School is outlined in the By-Laws of both Church and School.
