While there are many environments in which a child can flourish, few achieve the perfect combination of providing a first class education as well as a nurturing and inclusive environment for the entire family. We were lucky enough to find that perfect fit for our family in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School.
After nine years of being a part of the St. Stephen’s family, I can wholeheartedly say that SSEDS is an exceptional school that provides children with the skills to develop strength of character. Both of my children have flourished at St. Stephen’s. I’ve never seen a school with students and families who so actively care and participate in creating a true sense of community. The admissions department, faculty, and staff, all made it a point to get to know our family, and our children were able to build trusting and meaningful relationships within this extended family.
St. Stephen's provides an environment that lets our children know they are a part of something bigger than themselves, and we are forever grateful.
Choosing a “first school” is a daunting task. We knew we could raise our children the way we want at home, but a very big part of who they will become is a result of where they hang their backpacks Monday-Friday, seven hours a day. This is where they will learn to socialize, learn real teamwork and group work, and where they will learn to learn. Despite much research, there was still trepidation with a decision of this importance. Having been part of the St. Stephen’s family for the last eight years, we now know, without a single shred of doubt, we could not have made a better decision for our family. St. Stephen’s teaches to the whole child: heart, mind, and soul. And along the way, as we have watched our children grow up to be little citizens of the world, something else amazing happened…we ourselves have become richer through meeting amazing people, both at St. Stephen’s itself, but also through fellow parents. St. Stephen’s is a wonderful community of which we all are so thankful to be a part.
St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School holds a special place for our family. Both our daughters received the utmost attention and care, and the educational experience was outstanding. Equally as important, the school did an impressive job of instilling our girls with the LIFE skills to succeed, starting with the self-confidence that they can achieve at the still unknown heights of their full potential. The people are fantastic, from administration to impressive faculty & staff, all of whom care deeply about the mission of the school. It was a treasure for our family to discover such an incredible institution (right in the heart of the Grove!), particularly given that we were new to the Miami area. Thank you, SSEDS, and we miss seeing all of you at Flag Salute.
St. Stephen's is my family's second home and its community a cornerstone in our lives. Teachers are fully invested in seeing each student succeed, and they are supported by an administration adept at continually improving and adapting to our ever-changing world. The positive environment, and balance between academics, character development, and spirituality, has influenced my family immeasurably.
Eight years ago when I was looking for an Elementary School for my children, St. Stephen’s struck me as a place with a holistic approach to education, not only focusing on academics but also on the child’s moral development. In the classrooms, I saw well-behaved children eager to learn and teachers who had total command of the classroom. Throughout the years I saw my children learn in an innovative and dynamic way, in a small setting where everyone knew each other. Not only did my children make great friends but we as parents did as well. Miami is a city that attracts people from all over the world and SSEDS reflects that demographic. We are now getting ready for the transition to Middle School, and I feel they are well prepared for this next chapter.
Our family has been fortunate to be a part of the St. Stephen’s community for almost two decades. Our son’s time at SSEDS has been transformational – he’s blossomed into a gregarious, outgoing, confident, and caring young boy over the course of the last five years. Our family has borne witness to how the St. Stephen’s Faculty and Administration all play an integral role in helping educate and inspire children – like our son – “to lead by example and become forces for good in the world.
Our two boys love to go to school, they receive an excellent education while also making friends, having fun and building values that will last a lifetime. SSEDS provides an uplifting environment in which children grow and learn. We love that younger kids have the opportunities to look up to older kids (reading buddies), speak in public (flag salute), care for others (help for the community), and keep learning and growing everyday with critical thinking. We are grateful that SSEDS has given our children a love for curiosity and more confidence.
We have been fortunate to find in St. Stephen’s an extension of our home. It is reassuring to see our children every morning happy to go to school, where they are not only receiving an excellent academic education but they are helping us form them into confident people, with strong values and concerned about their community.
